Barberton's annual Cherry Blossom Festival offers a family fun day

A day filled with fun, family-oriented activities and live entertainment is in store when you venture to the 58th annual Cherry Blossom Festival being held at Lake Anna Park in Barberton, Ohio on Friday, May 16, Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18.

Cherry Blossom Festival There is something for everyone to enjoy at the Cherry Blossom Festival with its multitude of activities covering a wide range of interests. The Festival will feature amusement rides, free musical entertainment and lots of children's activities.

The Cherry Blossom Parade has a Western theme this year and will take place on Saturday, May 17 at 10 a.m. and will last approximately 2 hours. It will feature more than 100 entries including marching bands, fire trucks, twirlers and maybe even some belly dancers.

Other activities at the Festival include a Barberton Idol singing competition, a police K-9 demonstration and an Inflatable Bounce House.

For the kids there will be fishing derby (Sunday from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m.) and sand castle building (Saturday from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.). There will also be a petting zoo area (offered noon- 3 p.m. on Saturday) sponsored by the Critters Keepers 4-H Club where everyone will get to meet and greet animals like goats and llamas. Pony rides will also be offered for a small fee.

Be sure you don't miss the Cherry Pie Eating Contest on Saturday at 4 p.m.. Anyone 3 and over can participate and contestants will be expected to eat either a 1/4, 1/2 or whole cherry pie --- without their hands! Prizes will be awarded.

Hours for the Barberton Cherry Blossom Festival are 5 p.m. -10 p.m. on Friday, noon - 10 p.m. on Saturday and noon - 7 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to the Festival is free but there are fees for some of the activities including the amusement rides, pony rides ($4 per ride) and the Inflatable Bounce House Fundraiser ($2 for 5 minutes).
