On October 26, CrossFit Surge in Northglenn will once again host Barbells for Boobs – an international initiative throughout the CrossFit community which strives to raise money for mammograms for those who do not qualify for government assistance.
Barbells for Boobs (or “B4B” as it is frequently called) is a not-for-profit organization that funds breast centers for screenings and other diagnostic procedures, helping thousands of people who would not otherwise be financially able to attain these screenings.
Almost 600 teams are currently registered throughout the world, primarily at CrossFit affiliates. Some, such as CrossFit Eminence in Thornton who hosted their annual Girls Gone Rx’d competition this weekend, have already held their events on the Barbells for Boobs “Pink Bra Tour”. Others have hosted more traditional events, such as Integral CrossFit in Boulder, which offered their participants a choice between “Helen” – their traditional B4B workout consisting of intervals of quarter-mile sprints, kettlebell swings, and pullups, or “Grace”, one of the B4B favorites consisting simply of 30 clean-and-jerks for time.
CrossFit Surge will combining the two (deemed “Helen meets Grace”), and making it a two-person team workout with teammates tagging in and out as needed. Last year Surge brought in $5,000 for Barbells for Boobs, and their Mammograms in Action grant program. This year they hope to raise at least $6,000.
To join up, just go to the Barbells for Boobs website, and either search on a team in your area, or create one of your own!
