Barbara Walters dropped a bomb during Monday morning's episode of The View when she announced that her upcoming 29th Oscar night Barbara Walters Special will be her last.
Barbara Walters told her The View co-hosts: "I think I'm sick of them. I feel like I've been there, done that. ABC wants us to continue doing them. They're very successful. I just feel we should quit while we're ahead."
Walters, who is 80-years-old, says that the upcoming finale to her iconic franchise will include a retrospective of the greatest moments from her 28 past Oscar night specials. The first Oscar night Barbara Walters Special took place in 1981 and featured Walters interviewing Brooke Shields, Linda Gray, Ringo Starr, Barbara Bach and Loretta Lynn.
Barbara Walters' current The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg is a past Barbara Waltesr Special Oscar night guest. Goldberg stated on Monday morning's The View: "I'm glad I got in when the gettin' was good."
The View co-host Joy Behar asked Barbara Walters why she wouldn't do one more Oscar night special to make it an even 30?
"That would be cliche," responded Walters.
This final Oscar night Barbara Walters Special airs at 6:00PM on ABC before the Academy Awards on March 7, 2010 and will feature interviews with Best Actress nominee Sandra Bullock and Best Supporting Actress nominee Mo'Nique.
