As news journalists go, Barbara Walters is one of the most respected in the business and her annual specials are fan favorites year after year. ABC News announced on Dec2 the list of people Barbara has chosen as her picks for the “Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of the Year” special. Some of the names on the list might surprise while others will be expected.
The 90 minute special, set to air Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 8:30 p.m., will be the 21st consecutive time the show has aired. Here are the most fascinating people of 2013, according to Barbara Walters:
Jennifer Lawrence – Hollywood’s ‘golden girl’ stars in one of the movie industry’s biggest franchises this year and won herself an Oscar all while remaining grounded and sane in a crazy business.
Miley Cyrus - You either love or hate Miley but either way she’s definitely a force to be reckoned with. This is her second appearance on the list as she was here in 2008, too.
The couple known as Kimye – Kim Kardashian and Kanye West seem to turn the simplest of human activities into big news. Their baby was named for a compass direction and they became engaged on the air in a baseball stadium. Kanye made the list in 2005 and the Kardashian clan made it in 2011.
Prince George – The newest member of the Royal Family will probably be accompanied by his parents, Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton.
The cast of Duck Dynasty – The unexpected hit show about a family of duck callers has taken the country by storm and now we’ll get to meet them up close and personal.
Robin Roberts – The cancer-surviving cohost of ABC’s Good Morning America returned to work in February following a bone marrow transplant just 5 years after battling breast cancer.
Edward Snowden – Arguably the most famous whistle-blower of all time got the world talking about U.S. secrets and can no longer set foot on his home soil.
Diana Nyad – This daring woman became the first to swim from Cuba to Florida without the benefit of a shark cage for protection and at the remarkable age of 64.
Pope Francis The latest leader of the Catholic Church is using his powerful voice to open hearts and minds to help shape a more accepting world.
The Number One spot remains under wraps and will be announced on the show. Interspersed with the interviews will be moments from the previous 20 years’ worth of shows. Since Barbara Walters has announced that this is her last year in journalism, this will be the last edition of the “Most Fascinating.” Enjoy!
