Barbara Walters has chicken pox

Barbara Walters has been off the air since she took a tumble and cut her head more than a week ago, and new information has come out about the real reason for the fall on Monday.

According to doctors, Walters had a fainting spell, as a result of a persistent low-grade fever, that was caused by the chicken pox, reports ABC News.

The news was revealed on "The View" by Whoopi Goldberg on Monday morning.

Whoopi said that Walters never had the chicken pox when she was child.

"We want to give you an update on Barbara. You all know that she fell and cut her head 10 days ago, and then was running a temperature, but it turns out it is all the result of a delayed childhood, thing. Barbara has the chicken pox. Apparently, she never had it as a child. So now she's been told to rest; she's not allowed any visitors, and we're telling you, Barbara, no scratching," said Whoopi Goldberg on "The View" Monday.

Walters was in the hospital for treatment in Washington and then Manhattan where doctors have told her to rest.

The ABC news journalist is expected to make a full recovery and thanked everyone for all the well wishes.
