On March 8, reports surfaced that Elisabeth Hasselbeck would be fired from the talk show “The View.” The New York Post is reporting that Barbara Walters is furious that the plans to let Hasselbeck go were leaked.
Walters is an executive producer of the show and was forced to deny the report of Hasselbeck’s firing last Monday. Her statement was that, “We have no plans for Elisabeth to leave this show.”
Allegedly a source told The Post that, “ABC is desperate to freshen up the show. Dumping Joy Behar, who was there 16 years, and Hasselbeck would be the fastest way to do it, they decided.”
“After giving Behar the bad news last week and letting her bow out gracefully, someone leaked the Hasselbeck thing. So enemies she has on the show saw their chance to get back at her. Barbara was spitting mad that it got mishandled.”
The source went on to say that Elisabeth Hasselbeck may not get the boot after having the denial issued. However, she doesn’t have a “long-term future” on the show.
A rep for The View has denied that Barbara Walters is angry. “She [Walters] loves these women and wants what’s best for them.”
As to who will replace Joy Behar, it seems that the leading candidate for the job is Brooke Shields.
