In the interest of getting more than just my own view of religion and spirituality seen, I have tracked down and interviewed a highly successful psychic, Barb Powell. Barb has her own jaded experience with religion, but she hasn’t let it bring her view on God down. Her husband is a Southern Christian Minister, supported her decision to go public with her skills and abilities even to the detriment of his own work in the church. Both Barb and her husband were kicked out of the church they attended. Barb hasn’t let this experience get her down.
Walter Brumbaugh: What is your view on the existence of god(s)?
Barb Powell: I believe in a God or higher power and Angels. I have seen Angels around people. I try to remain as open as possible, that anything and everything is possible. I had a producer once call me and ask me if I believed in UFO's and Aliens. I explained to them that I can't say whether I believed in them or not as I have not personally met or saw with my own eyes. I have of course read for people who have had experiences. Who am I to say that these experiences of these people are not true? Who am I to say whether something exists or do not exists? I have had a lot of experiences that I personally cannot explain, but I believe in a greater existence, one that cannot be explained.
WB: Do you believe your skill comes from god or being in tune with the energies of the world?
BP: I believe that my skill comes from God. Again we are all born with gifts. It's up to us whether we use it or not. That's our choice and decision. But it's by being in tune with energy that allows the gift to come alive and be present.
WB: Is there any difference between having a skill as a gift from god or simply being in tune with the energies of the world?
BP: It depends on the skill. Meditation is a form of letting go and being in tune. Music is also a form of meditation. When you watch someone who plays piano and they just become one with it and you can visibly see the piano player mold into the piano, they are awesome at what they do. Anyone can learn to play the piano and be very good at it, but it's those who truly let go and become one with the music, feel it or be in tune with it that truly sings! Anyone can be 'psychic' (skill) but there are very few who are truly good at what they do because they become one with the energy.
WB: What is your view on organized religion?
BP: I can't say that I do not like organized religion; organized religion does not like me. I love to go to church as long as I am accepted for who and what I am. But there are restrictions, meaning I could never 'work' for a church because of the label it would give the church or what it stands for. I feel that religion helps people. Everyone needs something to believe in. Faith is what keeps people moving forward, how can anyone go against that?
WB: Do you feel more spiritual in a place of worship or out on your own communing with nature?
BP: I feel spiritual in a public bathroom, it doesn't matter where I am or whom I am with. You can find God or a higher power anywhere, all you need to do is ask and it shall be received.
In my opinion, Barb has a very open minded view on religion and spirituality. If you want to know more about Barb, check out her website: http://www.barb-powell.com. There you can check out her extensive accomplishments and descriptions of her skills.
