The President of the United States apologized to the American people today for the continuing government shutdown, but he placed responsibility for the shutdown on the opposition. The web site McClatchy DC reports that the president "urged Republicans in the House of Representatives to pass bills immediately to reopen the government and increase the nation’s borrowing limit, even while continuing to call them irresponsible hostage takers."
In other words, the president wants Republicans to accede to his demands, or else! This comes from a president who didactically reminds the American political class to practice civility while he and his fellow Democrats call Republicans arsonists, terrorists, and hostage-takers. The fact is that the Republican Party is the only side that has offered a compromise, one of which would not impact ObamaCare whatsoever other than to delay the program for one year (a reprieve that the president gladly provided to Big Business and Big Labor.) Yet, the president nor the Democrats want anything to do with the proposal. They'd rather channel their puerile energy into blocking World War II veterans from visiting their memorial or forcing National Park Service employees to point guns at elderly women attempting to visit our national parks (all the while allowing illegal aliens to prance around on a National Mall that was closed to real American citizens.)
If President Obama expresses regret for anything, he should apologize for repeatedly lying to the American people about the government shutdown. Moreover, he should admit that ObamaCare as it stands now is not the program he promised to the electorate. Had he been honest from day one, the bill would never have become law. Americans would not have supported a plan that forces business owners to reduce the hours of their employees, making full-time workers struggle that much harder to pay their bills. They would not have knowingly supported a bill that forces people without a health care plan to participate in the government program under the threat of a fine. They would not have accepted a so-called health care program that includes a wide range of provisions unrelated to health care that empower the government to become more intrusive in their lives.
The only way that this boondoggle of a law made its way through the Congress is the hard work and dedication of our Liar-in-Chief, a man whose every words are tainted with deception. We all know that presidents occasionally play politics in order to advance their own ideological interests, but this president's ability to lie with a straight face while looking into a camera is disturbing at minimum and inherently dangerous. Yet, what can we expect when electing a man into office who never held a real job, never had to own up to anything, and never had to tell the truth? Since his first campaign for public office, he has been given the benefit of the doubt and never forced to explain his positions, his character, or his motives. During yesterday's White House press conference, the Democratic-activists-disguised-as-reporters could not bring themselves to ask one question about ObamaCare. They simply report whatever Obama says. Who wouldn't lie through his teeth if he knew that whatever he said would be reported as God's law?
Yet, we cannot simply accept Obama's nefariousness and hope that all of this will fade away. Words spoken and decisions made by presidents have an impact on our country. Amazingly, even with a Nazi-style propaganda machine in place, truth is seeping out into the hinterlands of America as Obama's approval rating falls to 37 percent (a fact that no media outlet is daring enough to report.) Americans might be uneducated and easily duped, but even their ignorance is not enough to prevent them from realizing how ObamaCare is a threat to their way of life. Most people can't name the Vice-President, but they know something is wrong when their employer drops their working hours and wishes them luck on replacing their employer-backed health care plan. They know something isn't quite right when the president boasts about the benefits of his health care program while exempting members of Congress and labor unions.
At some point, the Liar-in-Chief will have to stop playing games and re-assume his role as Commander-in-Chief. Leaders do not blame others, they do not eschew responsibility, and they certainly do not need to lie in order to get people to follow them. In the end, habitual liars like Barack Obama succumb to the complexities of trying to keep their lies from running into one another. Ultimately, their narrative can no longer hold up under its own weight. One senses that the house of lies built by Obama is about to come crashing down.
