The most controversial commercial from the 2013 Super Bowl was, bar none, the Go Daddy ad starring supermodel Bar Refaeli. The 30-second spot that aired during the Feb. 3 broadcast featured race car driver Danica Patrick touting the internet domain hosting company’s perfect balance of sexy and smart, but it took an unexpected turn.
“When sexy meets smart your small business scores,” the ad declared, but not before Refaeli and a geek named Walter started swapping spit in an extended make-out session. But if the extremely close-up open mouth kiss complete with slobbering sound effects wasn’t disturbing enough for you, count your lucky stars that CBS banned the original version of the spot.
In the unaired, extended cut version— conveniently posted for curious viewers on the Go Daddy website—the tongue action is explicit enough to make anyone squirm.
During an interview on “The Today Show,” Refaeli had nothing but praise for her nerdy co-star, Jesse Heiman. “He’s a very, very good kisser,” she said.
The Sports Illustrated cover model also said that while she would have been fine with the more graphic version of the ad airing on CBS, she understands why the network opted for the less-explicit version.
