In the fight game, perception often trumps reality.
In the always scrutinizing eye of the boxing critic, a prizefighter is only as good as his previous outing. With that logic in mind, a pugilist always has the distinct opportunity to redefine how he is perceived every time he steps foot in the squared circle.
On Saturday, March 23rd, Pleasanton native and Bantamweight fighter Rafael Casias hopes to alter the perception of the boxing consciousness and give his adoring fans a big victory when he faces San Antonio resident Omar Gonzalez on the highly anticipated Triple A Promotions fight card at Sunset Station.
The 32 year old fighter feels good about his chances on March 23rd.
“I’m excited to step in the ring again and put on a show for the great fight fans in and around the San Antonio area,” claims the nine year professional fight veteran. “I know Omar Gonzalez is a very tough southpaw, but I’m preparing more meticulously for this bout than I have in quite some time. I’ve had a full eight week training camp and I’m peaking physically right now.”
“I’ll be ready to give Mr. Gonzalez a very tough fight on Saturday, March 23rd.”
While most pugilists attempt to avoid facing the awkward and often troubling southpaw style, the hard punching Bantamweight embraces the challenge.
“My last two opponents have been southpaw fighters,” explains Rafael Casias. “I know I came up short in those two fights, but I’ve been training with a phenomenal left-handed prospect with great speed and power by the name of Tony Lopez for this upcoming bout. He’s pushing me in the gym and we’ve had a great camp.”
“I’ve been sparring with some of the best amateur and professional talent in the DFW area, including WBA title challenger Robert Marroquin, while getting ready for Omar Gonzalez, so I’ll be very confident when I see him across the ring on March 23rd.”
Although the aggressive fighter didn’t see a victory while competing throughout the previous year, Casias squared off against two of the more highly touted prospects of the Bantamweight division in 2012; Sergio Perales and Tremaine Williams. The two promising fighters boast an impressive combined record of 27-1.
Despite experiencing recent adversities in the ring, Casias’ legion of fans continue to support their beloved fighter and whole heartedly expect to see Rafa’s arm raised in victory at Sunset Station next Saturday night.
“I have the best fight fans in the world,” the determined pugilist insists. “I think one of the reasons why they continue to support me in the ring is because of my fight style. They know whenever they come out and see me it’s going to be an entertaining, all-action fight. Win or lose, my supporters deserve and have come to expect an exciting performance. That’s what I try to give them each and every time I compete in the ring, and that’s what they’ll see at Sunset Station on March 23rd.”
