Bank of America calls woman a 'slut' on her preprinted credit card offer

Bank of America would like Lisa McIntyre’s business. Calling her a “slut” isn’t going to get it.

The bizarre story, reported on by Yahoo! Saturday, is equal parts humorous and contemptible. Lisa McIntyre, a freelance writer, received a typical credit card offer from Bank of America – save for one outlandish difference. The preprinted name on the letter was addressed to “Lisa Is A Slut McIntyre.”

The letter was sent to Lisa’s mother, who took photos of the offensive junk mail and sent them to her daughter. Lisa then took to Twitter to share the news, as well as to update us on BOA’s response.

Hi @BofA_Help. I just received a credit card offer from you that addressed me as “Lisa Is A Slut McIntire.” – @LisaMcIntire

After the story went semi-viral, Bank of America finally responded:

@LisaMcIntire We’re incredibly sorry this happened and are researching now so we can take the appropriate action. ^bm – @BofA_Help

Officials at BOA then reached out to Lisa, and they had a chat. As updated by Lisa on Twitter:

On the phone with BofA right now… – @LisaMcIntire

All right, kiddos, gather around. I shall now tell you how I came to receive a credit card offer for “Lisa Is A Slut McIntire.” – @LisaMcIntire

McIntyre explained that the credit card offer was sent to her by Golden Key International Honour Society, which partners with businesses like Bank of America to send out their offers. BOA blamed Golden Key, and said the “offensive language” was added to her account between 2004 and 2008.

Lisa, who kept a sense of humor throughout, said:

So it’s possible that I’ve been sluttin’ it up in a honor society’s database for almost 10 years. – @LisaMcIntire

The company didn’t explain under what circumstances the phrase got onto her offer, or who may have put it there. They did indicate that they would add “slut” to their list of flagged words.

Thank goodness.
