BAM boats the best bass at Oroville

Anglers launched on Lake Oroville for the 2013 U.S. Angler's Choice Pro/Am circuit today. Leading the competition in the two-day, shared-weight draw tournament is Bass Angler Magazine's editor-in-chief Mark Lassagne with 14.71.

He found a five-fish limit that was bolstered by the only six pounder weighed in the event. "My big fish went 6.40," said Lassagne in a Day One interview. "I got that one on an umbrella rig. In fact, I got all of my fish except one on an umbrella rig. I also picked up a three pounder on a jerkbait."

Lassagne's fish all came from shallow depths of less than 10-feet. He reported the water temp in the mid to high 50's. He is confident in continuing his bass hunt tomorrow with the two baits that he had on today; but felt he would be fishing much deeper due to an expected front that is coming in.

"I don't know if I will get 14-lbs again; but I feel good about tomorrow," added BAM's creator. "The spots are movin' around. I saw a couple of fives yesterday and today, when I went back it was 50-yards away. I casted at it; but it moved on. I went back later and drug my bait of the bank and got it. That was my big one. It was actually a six, not a five like I had thought when I first saw it. It went right for the umbrella rig. I 'm fishing it on a new Phenix A-rig rod that I just got and it is incredible. I've casted all day without feeling tired and can feel the bite real well."

The 14 boat field will continue their Oroville action tomorrow.
