Thirty year old Gabrielle Smith has been arrested and charged with second degree murder after she stabbed her former best friend in a domestic dispute.
According to published documents, on Sunday evening around 7:45 pm, Baltimore City Police responded to the 4400 block of Fairview Avenue in northwest Baltimore where they found 32 year old Latreshia Gowdy bleeding and suffering from a stab wound to the arm and a six inch gash to her abdomen.
The wound to her stomach sliced a major artery which caused her to bleed internally and she later died at a local hospital.
Family member commented that Gabrielle and Latreshia used to be best friends but when Gabrielle started seeing Latreshia's estranged ex husband, the friendship took a turn for the worse.
Latreshia, who is originally from Ohio, shared a 3 year old son with her ex husband and on the night of her murder, she drove to her ex husband's home on Fairview Avenue to pick her son up after spending the weekend with his father. Gabrielle was outside standing on the front stoop with Latreshia's ex husband. When Latreshia pulled up, Latreshia grabbed a beer bottle from a back yard grill and threatened Gabrielle with it. Gabrielle then pulled out a pocket knife and threatened her former friend with it as Latreshia's ex husband and other men tried to keep the women from fighting. Her ex husband went inside the home to retrieve their son thinking that Latreshia would leave once the boy was with her but when he came back outside, Latreshia and Gabrielle were still fighting.
When they separated, Latreshia collapsed to the ground.
Latreshia was due to graduate from beauty school next month.
Arrested and charged with second degree murder and possession of a dangerous weapon, Gabrielle is being held without bail at the Baltimore City Detention Center. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on November 18, 2013.
