Baltimore snow photos show the city aglow, Polar Bear Plunge video (Photos)

It was a late start to the winter season, but a few bouts of snow help light up Baltimore late in January. Thursday morning January 24th brought 1-2 inches of snow to the area, which delayed many area schools. Most of that fell in the dark of night and was finished at first light. The second hit was Friday afternoon, arriving before the rush hour and sent most area school kids home early. This also set up a messy ride home, but an opportunity to see the city show off its true colors.

Local Photographer Jim Schuyler set out to show off how charming Charm City can be this time of year. Check out the slide show for his views across downtown Baltimore from the top of The World Trade Center looking in all directions. You can see a great comparison from day to night, and even City Hall decked out in purple Ravens lights.

For contrast, this weekend was the 17th Annual Polar Bear Plunge benefitting Maryland Special Olympics. It was my first year in the water, and it was COLD! With snow on the ground along the shore of the Chesapeake Bay, the air temperature was 25F and water temperature was 35F on Saturday. I still went in. See my video on the left. Brrrr.....

Please check out Kid Weather, the mobile app made with my 6 year old son called. We actually were helping to kick off the Family Pee Wee Plunge as we promote out app, science, and anything outdoors with families. We have had tremendous international support prompting our first update to include a Celsius display and more winter clothing. See more with download links at http://www.kidweatherapp.com
