Baltimore native and songwriter, Benjamin Harrell has recently released his new single, "Jesus" . The mid tempo track, which features singer Summer Pearson on lead vocals, declares the love and adoration a child of God has for their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born and raised in Baltimore, the 34 year hold Harrell was raised by his parents, Ivey and James Harrell, who raised him with the understanding that there was nothing more important than faith and family. With his mother a singer and his father a writer, Harrell was immersed in the arts at an early age. Harrell played the violin for a couple of years but then his focus turned to poetry, which was the best way he found to express himself.
Harrell had a gift for translating the heart of man into words. Harrell and his father created Writer’s Foundation, a place where writers can submit and share poetry. After writing hundreds of poems, Harrell started to realize that something had been missing. He remembered his father playing Otis Redding’s “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” and explaining the emotion he felt about the beauty of the words. It was that emotion, the feeling that overwhelms a listener when they are touched by a song, which challenged Harrell to write music. “Music is the place that I live in when I’m captured by its presence” says Harrell. Harrell relentlessly began pursuing his new found passion and within a month, his first two songs, “Count on Me” and “Jesus”, were written and recorded. Harrell is determined to pursue a life of song writing.
