The ATP World Tour 500 tournament finishes with the final on August 8th at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington, D.C. Total prize money will be 1.4 million dollars.
Three of the top ten men players are scheduled in this year’s tournament. The field is led by Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych (No. 8) and Andy Roddick (No. 9) who is a three time champion of the Legg Mason Classic.
They will be joined by Fernando Verdasco (No. 10), Marin Cilic (No. 13), John Isner (No. 18), Sam Querrey (No. 19), Lleyton Hewitt, and American James Blake among others.
On the doubles side, the top two ranked men’s doubles teams will be competing. Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic (no.1) and three-time Legg Mason Tennis Classic champions Bob and Mike Bryan (no. 2) will be battling for the top spot. The total doubles field will feature six of the top ten teams.
The ”500” designation makes the Legg Mason Tennis Classic one of the top 20 men’s tournaments in the world which brings national and international exposure for sponsors and the area.
The Legg Mason Tennis Classic is part of the Olympus US Open Series which links 9 North America tournaments over six weeks to the US Open.
Saturday July 31st kicks off at 10am with a qualifying round which leads to the main draw on Sunday August 1st.
