Baltimore Ravens’ Ray Lewis delivers speech heard 'round the world

Baltimore Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff misses a chip shot field goal with seconds to play in the fourth quarter and the team falls three points short of its goal of reaching Super Bowl XLVI after a 23-20 loss to the New England Patriots.

From the outside, it appeared to be a devastating moment for the players, the coaches, the front office and the franchise’s fans. However, Ray Lewis had a different perspective.

After 16 seasons in the NFL and a vow to return for at least a 17th, Lewis has done it all. He’s a Super Bowl MVP, a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and is one of the best linebackers to ever put on the pads.

Lewis leads the team by example and words and he delivered a strong message to his teammates just minutes after a loss that many would find hard to talk about. It’s 68 seconds worth watching and listening to and if it doesn’t give you chills you need to get checked.

Sure, many will always look at Lewis and think only of the murder indictment he faced in 2000 and the eventual guilty plea for obstruction of justice, but 12 years later he still remains one of the most polarizing figures in the NFL for his play and leadership and he’s a certain Hall of Famer one day down the road.
