As described in an article on Yardbarker.com, Baltimore Ravens (Baltimore "Ratbirds" to many in Steeler Nation) linebacker Terrell Suggs went on ESPN and sarcastically criticized the tendency to pray and to thank God of Denver Broncos second-year quarterback Tim Tebow.
According to Kevin Figgers' article:
Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs wasted little time taking shots at Denver Broncos quarterback, Tim Tebow.
“With all [due] respect, we dont pray on sidelines”, Suggs told ESPN’s First Take on Tuesday morning. “Once again God had to save Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos…[Tebow] couldnt even give them two drives? 7 to 3?…”I dont feel comfortable I gotta pray every 4th quarter, like oh my god please come save me again.”
This Sunday afternoon at 4:30 PM EST, Tebow and the Broncos host the Ravens' arch-rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, in the first round of the NFL playoffs.
Readers of Glenn Beck's news website, The Blaze, where a story about Suggs' statement was posted, offered numerous comments from readers. Among those were:
"cessna152": "The more these dopes open their mouths the more people become interested and jump on the Tebow bandwagon. The NFL must secretly love this guy!!!"
"StonyBurk": " I am getting more than weary of people who insist we need to exclude God-not allow Him in all that we do.I have no problems with Tim Tebow. He seems to have brought something to the Broncos that they needed at this point. "
"smackdown33": "[Suggs’s long-time fellow Ravens star Ray] Lewis was way too busy in a murder case to be praying to God. Remember the word sportsmanship. Prayer is the only thing that can save many of these thugs posing as athletes."
