The big jazz event this weekend is the Towson State Jazz Festival being held today and tomorrow. If you get the chance, stop by to see some of the area's up and coming mid and high school jazz players, along with some of the Baltimore areas most accomplished jazz musicians. Vibraphonist Dave Samuels is this year's special guest.
The other big event is happening north of here, in Foxborough, Massachusetts, where the Ravens will eliminate the Patriots from the NFL play-off picture on Sunday afternoon. For those of you who will be traveling north, we have listed a host of things for you to do while hanging around a snowy Boston area tonight and tomorrow.
As for around the Baltimore area, there is not much else happening tonight. There will be another special jazz performance tomorrow afternoon, and quite a few tomorrow night. Here is the schedule.

Bossalingo will perform at Boordy Vineyards' Chili Winter Days event beginning at 1 P.M., and lasting until 4:30 P.M. Bossalingo specializes in jazz with a confluence of Latin rhythms, mostly from Argentina, Brazil, and Cuba. There is no charge for Bossalingo's perfomance, but there is a $15 charge for adults, $10 for teens(ages 13-20), and $5 for children(ages 2-12).

While we are on the subject of latin jazz, the Sounds Good! Jazz Trio will be performing an early evening show beginning at 7 P.M. Sounds Good! specializes in Brazilian based rhythms fused with jazz. Members of the trio are, Bob Jacobson playing sax and clarinet, Bill Kalkman on guitar, and Larry Kinling on bass.

Another early evening performance tomorrow finds the Robert Shahid Quartet. The show begins at 6 P.M. and will last until 10.

More Latin rhythms will be on display tomorrow when Veronneau, fronted by vocalist Lynn Veronneau brings their sound to the AN DIE MUSIK. Featuring the acoustic guitar work of Ken Avis and David Rosenblatt, along with percussionist Pete Walby, Veronneau promises to mesmerize their audience with this eclectic mix of jazz.

After the Ravens defeat the Patriots and move onto the Super Bowl, you can check out the Glenn Angus Quartet. Violinist Glenn Angus will perform his unique interpretations beginning at 7:30 P.M. As a primer, check out this video of Mr. Angus' take on music from Spaghetti Westerns.
