Baltimore Food News

A lot of food related news, especially for the Baltimore region so rather than doing a gazillion posts this is a mini e-newsletter:  One stop shop for the food gossip.

Joe’s Crab Shack

Joe’s Crab Shack is set to open its third Maryland location on Monday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. at 3414 Merchant Blvd. in Abingdon at the Boulevard at Box Hill Shopping Center! The 284-seat Abingdon Joe’s Crab Shack will employ 236 people. www.joescrabshack.com @joes_crab_shack.

Café Gia

So many discount coupons to choose from…here is my pick for the day. Café Gia is a beautifully appointed restaurant in Baltimore’s Little Italy with the very talented Chef Gianfranco Fracassetti.   Café Gia’s coupon can be found at CBS Local Offers today $20 for $40 food and wine.

FoodRepulic.com – Power Ranking: 10 Sustainable Restaurants

Baltimore’s Woodberry Kitchen  ranks Number 2 on FoodRepublic.com’s  Power Ranking Sustainable Restaurants list.  If Baltimore has a “celebrity chef” it is Chef Spike Gjerdle from Woodberry Kitchen.  Recognized for his sustainable practices and team style operation at Woodberry Kitchen, Chef Gjerde was a featured speaker at the 2011 International StarChefs.com conference.

Interestingly, Woodberry Kitchen is a segment in the cookbook Off The Menu: staff meals from American’s Top Restaurants by Marissa Guggiana that is awaiting my review for my National Food Examiner column: Cookbook Corner.

Dougie's Bar-B-Que and Grill – Kosher Bar-B-Que

I’ve been seeing the signs for this restaurant for a couple months as I cross over Reisterstown Road at Slade Avenue.  I noticed that they are open just the other night. Yes Virginia, there is such a thing as kosher Bar-B-Que, no pork!  The Pikesville Patch gave them a write up – Dougie’s Dishes Up Unique Barbecue Options.  The restaurant is closed for Shabbat.

Looking for their webpage I came up with a Doughie’s in Brooklyn with a very similar logo.  I’m wondering if this is a franchise.
