Baltimore Blizzard 2010: God sends the storms

If God is the controller of the universe and beyond than isn't it easy to say that God sends the storms as well as the sunshine?  Baltimore is about to be hit with another wintery blast of snow and wind.  Do not be afraid we say for God is in control.  But be warned, God sends blizzards.

What seems like yesterday and a million years ago was the earthquakes that destroyed Haiti.  Baptist don't believe that God sent the storm to punish the people but that God is being glorified through it's recovery.  Baptists don't believe that Hurricane Katrina was sent to punish the people but that God brought the area back together.  We don't believe that God sent the terrorist attacks of 9/11 to punish Americans but we all know that God was lifted high amongst the heartache.

Do we need to wait for a major catastrophe to turn our eyes, hearts, minds and bodies to Christ?  Many lost power, heat, food, vehicles, and jobs during this past blizzard.  Now Baltimore is about to be hit with another several feet of snow with strong winds.  More families are going to be in turmoil.  More damage will be done.

The damage will be nothing compared to Haiti, Katrina, and 9/11.  But God sends storms of all sizes to get our attention.  Open your hearts to God and listen for His message to you during this mini-crisis.   Pray for your neighbors, pray for your churches, pray for those with no power, pray for those who were already struggling financially, pray for the shut-ins, pray for the homeless.  Be sure to help your neighbors with a helping hand, a friendly hello, and sharing God's love through the burdens this blizzard might bring.

Don't wait for a major disaster to pray to God. Pray now, pray daily, stay close to Him and let these "mini-crisises" be enough of a reminder that God won't need to send a "catastrophe". Good stuff.
