A former top ballerina with the Bolshoi Theater let some hefty accusations fly on a recent talk show. Anastasia Volochkova, a former ballet star, claimed that the ballerinas were often expected to sleep with the wealthy donors of the theater, according to ABC News on March 19, 2013.
Anastasia appeared on a Russian talk show Sunday and opened the flood gates for the media with these allegations. She said that if you put up any resistance when expected to sleep with these men, there would be repercussions within the theater.
Volochkova was fired from the Bolshoi Theater in 2003 reportedly because the theater folks deemed her as “too fat.” She explained that the ballerinas would be instructed to follow the men to bed after attending one of the many gala affairs the stars of this theater often attended.
The theater has not responded to these accusations, with the spokesperson Katrina Novikova saying that the management has not decided on how to react to everything that was said on that talk show. These latest accusations come on the heels of the Bolshoi's artistic director getting acid thrown in his face in a vicious attack in January.
Sergei Filin had sulfuric acid thrown at him as he walked to his apartment building. A top Bolshoi dancer was arrested for this attack, along with two other men who allegedly ordered and helped carry out the attack. Filin's face was severely burned and he is still in a hospital today in Germany as the doctors are trying to save his eyesight.
