Most ballerinas or ballet dancers are slim and trim, however, according to the Huffington Post on Dec. 20, ballerina Mary Helen Bowers is nine months pregnant and has been dancing throughout her entire pregnancy with the approval of her doctor.
She is about to give birth to her first child, but that hasn't stop the 33-year-old from being a trainer with her Ballet Beautiful fitness company where she helps Victoria's Secret models get in shape for the runway.
Bowers documented the stages of her pregnancy through photographs and has shared them on her Instagram page. She said ballet has helped her avoid back pain and swelling throughout her pregnancy
The Charlotte, North Carolina native told the Huffington Post:
"I've found the entire process of being pregnant to be such a miraculous, beautiful time. As a first-time mom I am so excited! My instinct has been not only to capture this special time, but [also] to share it with others, too. Pregnancy is magical, I've never felt more connected to my body. Looking back I'm so happy that I've taken so many photos and really documented the different stages."
The professional ballerina is most famous for helping Natalie Portman train for her Oscar-winning performance in the 2010 movie, "Black Swan."
Bowers admits that the image of a pregnant woman embracing her figure and performing can be scary for some people. She says her company is based on celebrating the strength and femininity of the female body, and pregnancy has just been an extension of that.
Bowers encourages all mothers to embrace and celebrate their bodies.
