Baleful Force is a fierce new "Magic: The Gathering" card featured in the "Mind Seize" deck from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming "Commander (2013 Edition)." This rare black Elemental creature will help you gain a massive amount of card advantage for a price: In this case it's life.
Baleful Force - 5BBB
Creature - Elemental (Rare)
At the beginning of each upkeep, you draw a card and you lose 1 life.
"As with any malevolent being, the trick is knowing how long you can afford to keep it in your service."
Like Tidal Force and Celestial Force, Baleful Force's power scales higher as the more players are in a game. With each additional player you'll get another extra card for one life. Luckily in commander you'll have a starting life total of 40 instead of 20. On the flip side, it's rather outrageous to play Baleful force if more than five players are in the game because you'll quickly blow through your life faster than you'll be able to cast the cards you've drawn. Another drawback is that Baleful Force has a high mana cost of eight. Unlike the "Titans," Baleful Force doesn't have an fancy "enters the battlefield" effect that makes an immediate impact. It also lacks any form of evasion or any other special ability that gives it an edge in combat.
One close comparison is Harvester of Souls, which costs two less mana to play and won't gobble up your life. Baleful Force guarantees you'll get a card every turn while Harvester of Souls requires creatures to die in order for you to due so.
How will you use Baleful Force?
