Fittingly enough for a community directly adjacent to Washington, D.C., Arlington has witnessed the growing population of bald eagles in recent years.

A bald eagle has been observed taking up residence in Arlingwood, a North Arlington neighborhood on the Potomac and next to the Fairfax County line. Arlington is also known to be home to at least one pair of bald eagles, who make their nest along the George Washington Memorial Parkway.

However, sightings of bald eagles remain rare in Arlington, in part because the birds tend to establish nests in places with a minimal human presence.
