This weekend, October 11-13, will be the Chicago Autumn Balboa Weekend with instructors Bobby White and Kate Hedin. This event will mostly take place in Dance Center Chicago, with the exception of the Friday and Sunday evening dances. Participants can expect all levels of classes, Jack and Jill Competition, and live music from Jake Sanders and Fat Babies. So if you need more balboa in your life, or are new to the dance and curious on how to start, this is the place to be!
October introduces a new project called Lindy Makers. Every month, a new video challenge will be posted. These videos are sure to shake up your Lindy Hop so that you don’t become stagnant in your dancing. Besides the videos, the $3/month subscription fee also entitles you to be a part of the Lindy Makers Facebook Community. There you can discuss and get ideas on your dancing from fellow dancers. The first video is slated to come out the 15th of this month.
There’s no sense in it being October without at least one Halloween dance! Forest City Swing is having their annual one October 24. Be sure to dress up, because admission is free if you are wearing a costume. There will also be prizes for best male, and best female costumes. As always, a beginner lesson starts at 8 p.m., with open dancing to follow until 10:30 p.m.
