Here is a short list of baking substitutions…you know, in case you go to the pantry and discover you are out of an ingredient. Hopefully, your baking masterpiece is not ruined and you can use this list to make your own!

1 tbsp. lemon juice and enough milk to equal 1 cup… stir well and let sit 2 minutes. This will give you 1 cup of buttermilk.
Low on Baking powder:
½ tsp. cream of tartar and 1/3 tsp. baking soda…this will give you 1 tsp. of baking soda.
Out of eggs:
¼ cup of boxed egg whites or egg beaters.
No powdered sugar:
Take granulated sugar and process in food processor or spice grinder until powdered sugar is made.
Use sour cream.
Out of cornstarch:
2 tbsp. flour can take the place of 1 tbsp. corn starch…just be sure to whisk it in well or it will clump.
Spilled the white sugar:
Use 1 cup packed brown sugar in the place of 1 cup granulated sugar.
All out of pumpkin pie spice:
3 Tbsp. ground cinnamon, 1 Tsp. ground nutmeg, 1/2 Tsp. ground ginger, 1/4 Tsp. ground allspice…use what you need now and save the rest for later.
