Baisha: Taiwan's secret paradise (Photos)

In a secluded corner of tropical Taiwan there is a place where you can really find some rest and relaxation. There is no hustle, nor bustle. There are no deadlines to meet. You are forced to take a breath and relax.

The Happy Panda is its secret. The Happy Panda is a campground where you can rent an RV, or tent, to sleep next to the beach and under the protection of the numerous palm branches. If you do not have an air mattress, or other camping supplies, you can rent many of them here. Additionally, if you want to buy a bathing suit, bath supplies, shorts, flip flops, beach dresses or delicious food you should not have a problem.

The folks at the Happy Panda make it easy to try a wide variety of Taiwanese foods, such as fried cabbage or stinky tofu, or western food like cheeseburgers, pizza and pasta because the prices are quite reasonable. Furthermore, you will not have to worry about being thirsty or sober unless you want to be as there are many refreshing drink choices including fresh juice, smoothies...margaritas. While you should bring a hobby to keep entertained, especially if you are staying for longer than three days, there are water activities on the ajoining beach and live musicians.

Camping is less than $30 US for one day regardless of how many people are in your party, and it is well worth every penny as it feels like you are staying at a secluded resort. The staff cleans everything immaculately and there is electricity and free WIFI throughout the grounds.

To get here by public transportation, go down to Kenting, which is in the southern part of Taiwan. Then, take a taxi to Baisha (sometimes spelled Paisha, but always pronounced Bi- Suh) and go to a place called Happy Panda. There is no public bus route in Baisha.

If you are heading to Kenting from Taipei you can take the train to Kaohsiung (pronounced Cow Shung) and let a kind man named Armstrong take you directly to Happy Panda from there. Email him ahead of time at armwu0725@gmail.com, or call 0960-249-580.

To ensure a safe beach camping experience, review these important safety precautions.
