A Baghdad brothel was the scene of terrible violence Tuesday. Security and medical officials in Iraq confirmed the deaths of seven women and five men after multiple gunmen stormed into the prostitution establishment and began firing their weapons.
Yahoo News reports Jan. 7 that this is the second string of violence of this type since last year on May 22 when armed gunmen stormed in and opened fire at a house in the Zayouna area of Baghdad that was being used as a brothel -- also killing 12 people.
The attack took place at an apartment in the Zayouna area of east Baghdad, where a similar attack took place last year.
The Baghdad brothel targeted this time took place in an apartment.
Violence in Iraq has reportedly increased since 2008. The year of 2014 is off to a rough start in the country. Within the first five days of January 2014, the number of deaths is more than all of those that took place last January.
A motive for why the gunmen barged into a Baghdad brothel and killed 12 people is unknown, but is a country known for violence as a predominate culture.
