According to the American Hockey League website on Monday, Calgary Flames prospect Sven Baertschi has been named the American Hockey League player of the week from March 31-April 6.

In only two games for the Flames' American Hockey League affiliate the Abbotsford Heat last week, Baertschi had three goals and four assists for seven points and was an impressive +7.

Baertschi, who plays left wing, has 13 goals and 16 assists for 29 points with the Heat, who are in second place in the West Division with a record of 39-25-7. The Heat, unlike the Calgary Flames, seem to be playoff bound.

Despite a solid season, Baertschi becomes only the first Heat this year to be named the American Hockey League player of the week. The last Heat player to receive the honour was Krys Kolanos on April 8, 2012.

Baertschi, a native of Switzerland, was the Flames' first round draft pick, 13th overall in the National Hockey League Entry Draft. He has eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 51 career games with the Flames.
