Bader Field becoming major part of AC entertainment scene

Bader Field, Atlantic City's former municipal airport located between the bay and the Black Horse Pike in Atlantic City's Chelsea Heights section and far from the casinos, is fast becoming a player in the AC Entertainment scene.  Rumors are running rampant that  four big-name concerts are being planned at Bader for this summer.  Nothing is confirmed, but sites like The Press of Atlantic City and nj.com are reporting on at least three of them, although no dates have been "officially" set.

Phish is supposedly scheduled for June 22, 23 & 24.  Phish Phans are very loyal and have almost a cult practice of camping out during the multi-day concerts.  While the dates are not set in stone, what is certain is that an application has been submitted for a camping permit at Bader Field and the Atlantic City Municipal Utilities Authority is working on estimates for extending water service out that way.  I'd say Phish Phans should get set for some Phish Phun in June!

Metallica.  There's not much information on this one yet, except that they are supposed to be here the last weekend in June.  Metallica still draws big crowds so Bader Field is perfect.

Kenny Chesney is reported by The Press as headlining the Americana Concert in September; howsumever. . .the big country radio station down here in South Jersey, CAT Country 107.3, says it's a definite maybe.  Very frustrating to the legions of Kenny Chesney fans in our area.

No word on what Number 4 is that I can find. . . YET.  As soon as all of these events are finalized, look to this Examiner to provide you with times, ticket prices and all the other details you'll need to enjoy the shows!

There's more than music going on at Bader Field.  Organizers of the second annual Atlantic City International Triathlon have just announced that the race will move to Bader Field this year.  This moves the mile swim portion from the ocean to the bay, eliminating the need to pull swimmers out of the ocean due to rough waves.  More details will follow when the official web site launches in mid-February.  Look for it here.

Bader Field, while little known outside of the AC area, has a long history in American aviation.   According to the FAA,

"Bader Field was the first municipal airport in the US for both land & seaplanes, and became the world's first 'air-port' in 1919."

Looks like Bader Field will again be Atlantic City news.  Stay tuned!
