Last week on Days, Kate was enraged that Stefano knew that EJ had kidnapped Sydney and hadn’t told her. Kate said that he’d caused her grandchildren to suffer and was terrified that Will would find out and never speak to her again. Stefano said he didn’t know what EJ had done until it was too late and then felt he had to protect his son. As they argued at the lake, Will walked by and asked them what was up with the wedding. Kate told Will what EJ had done but both she and Stefano assured him that they had no idea.
Phillip walked Melanie to the hospital for her shift. Nathan was there and Melanie asked him about his elbow. When Phillip was confused, Melanie explained that she’d been attacked and Nathan had saved her. Phillip asked why Melanie hadn’t told him and Melanie said it was because it happened the day Chloe announced she was pregnant. Stephanie approached them, kissing Nathan and greeting Phillip and Melanie. Nathan and Melanie went to prep for Nathan’s surgery. Stephanie stared at Phillip strangely. After leaving the hospital, Stephanie asked Ian to help her find out who changed the results of Chloe’s paternity test. Melanie coaxed Nathan through a difficult surgery after a nurse was rude to him. Nathan said he knew he’d be fine with Melanie by his side.
Nicole stopped by Chloe’s apartment to give her a birthday gift. Nicole told Chloe that she was in trouble and asked if it was OK if she stayed with her and Daniel for a few days. Chloe said she could and Nicole went to get her luggage from the hall. When Daniel got home, he told Chloe it wasn’t a good idea if Nicole stayed with them. Chloe said Nicole had no place to go and was scared of EJ. Nicole said she needed to get a few more things from the motel and Daniel offered to go with her.
At the pier, Nicole insisted that Daniel didn’t have to go with her. Daniel said that if she planned to stay in his home, he needed to know everything that was going on with EJ. After she asked her bodyguard, George, to give them some privacy, Nicole explained that she’d tell him everything once they were in private. Daniel agreed to let her stay with them but warned her not to hurt his family. He went to go check on Chloe. When Nicole called for George, EJ stepped out from the shadows.
As EJ walked towards Nicole, she warned him that it was a public place. A drunk EJ informed Nicole that he had nothing to lose. Nicole accused EJ of just wanting to scare her, not caring about his children and being dead inside. As she verbally assaulted him, EJ sat down on the bench and apologized, saying it had been a rough day. As Nicole stepped closer, EJ reached out and started to strangle her. Daniel came back and pulled EJ off Nicole just in time, warning him to stay away. After EJ left, Daniel said that Nicole had better tell him why he’d just threatened a DiMera. Nicole told him about how she’d blackmailed EJ. George returned with red marks around his neck where EJ had strangled him. He asked Daniel to “be a good guy” and let Nicole stay with them, promising that the FBI would be watching. Daniel reluctantly agreed.
Back at Daniel and Chloe’s apartment, Nicole cried to Daniel after downing his remaining alcohol. Daniel told her to keep a low profile or she’d be out on her ass. Nicole swore she wouldn’t get a moment’s peace until she’d taken care of EJ for good. Daniel was disgusted that people talked about killing others so lightly. After Chloe got back from telling Brady she was pregnant at the Cheatin’ Heart, she asked Daniel to go to bed so she could have a heart to heart with Nicole. Nicole asked Chloe how Brady was and lamented over losing him. Chloe said they should go to bed because things would look better in the morning. Nicole called Rafe and yelled at him over her life being in danger. When he hung up on her, she threw a vase against the wall and woke up Daniel and Chloe. Nicole said she’d be better off dead. In the morning, Nicole asked Daniel and Chloe if she could borrow money to get out of town. Chloe said she could, but Daniel urged her to stay in Salem because she had friends there who’d look out for her. Touched, Nicole thanked him.
Sami and Rafe put the kids to bed at the Brady Pub. Rafe was about to leave when Sami stopped him and said that he was every girl’s dream… and her dream. Rafe asked if Sami wanted to go to his place and talk. On their way out, they ran into Arianna who was coming back from the DiMera mansion. Arianna warned them that EJ was very upset. At Rafe’s apartment, Sami and Rafe made up for lost time in the bedroom. Rafe assured Sami that he would make sure EJ went to prison, but Sami was worried because she knew EJ wouldn’t stop until he took her kids from her. Back at the mansion, Kate overheard Stefano and EJ arguing and EJ threatened to take his kids and leave town. Kate called Sami and warned her. Sami lied to Rafe and said it was her grandmother.
At the mansion, Stefano and Kate decided to spend the night on their yacht. EJ continued to drink after attacking Nicole, angrily kicking the butler out. He reached into a drawer, pulled out his gun, and went upstairs. Overcome with grief after seeing a picture Johnny drew of their family, EJ lay down on the bed and cried, holding the gun to his temple. EJ passed out with the gun in his hand, dropping his glass of scotch on the floor. Meanwhile, Sami snuck out of Rafe’s apartment while he was asleep. She went to the mansion to confront EJ about taking the kids. When he didn’t answer her shouts, Sami went upstairs and saw EJ passed out with the gun in his hand. When EJ wouldn’t wake up, Sami started to leave, but she thought about the day EJ had told her that Sydney was dead. Overcome with emotion, Sami picked up the gun and shot EJ.
Sami stared at EJ in shock, blood pouring from the side of his head. She quickly left the mansion, running to the pier and throwing the gun in the river before crawling back into bed with Rafe. Rafe woke up when Nicole called him and noticed that Sami had goose bumps. Sami said she’d had a nightmare and Rafe comforted her with more sex. When she fell asleep, Sami had a nightmare about shooting EJ and Rafe catching her. Rafe shook her awake, but Sami claimed she didn’t remember what she was dreaming about.
Rafe thought it was a good idea to go to the Brady Pub and decide what to tell the kids about EJ. Sami declared that EJ was out of their lives and that, no matter what happened between her and Rafe, they had last night. Rafe insisted that they would be together. He said he’d spent months thinking about it while he was trying to find the evidence against EJ. He reached into his nightstand drawer, pulled out a diamond ring, and proposed to Sami. Shocked, Sami asked if he really wanted to have a life with her. He said he did, got down on his knee and asked her again. Sami said “Hell yes!” and kissed Rafe passionately.
Stefano and Kate returned to the mansion, calling out for EJ. Stefano saw evidence of EJ’s drinking binge and went upstairs expecting to find his hungover son. Instead, he realized EJ had been shot. Stefano cried and prayed in Italian while Kate called for an ambulance. Daniel’s phone rang as he and Chloe persuaded Nicole not to leave town. Daniel rushed out of the apartment, shocking Chloe and Nicole by saying he had to operate on EJ because he’d been shot. At the hospital, Stefano told Daniel to do what it took to save his life as Daniel rushed EJ into the operating room.
