Bad TV's most wanted: Infotainment instigators: #2

#2: Rush Limbaugh

If you took the intense hatred of Ann Coulter, the insanity of Glenn Beck, and the willingness of Sarah Palin to try to manufacture a controversy out of anything, the end result would be identical to that which you would find inside the mind of Rush Limbaugh.

During Jay Leno's short-lived ten o'clock show, Limbaugh appeared as a guest. On the subject of compromise and of getting along, Limbaugh offered the following:

"You want us to get along? Fine, then you can give up everything you believe and agree with me, and then we'll get along."

If that is Limbaugh's way of thinking, nobody will ever agree with him. This is because his hatred of all things Democratic is so great that he has continually willed himself to believe in greater, more unfounded extremes, surpassing even Glenn Beck's penchant for craziness.

Limbaugh most infamously lost many of his sponsors for insisting that, if Sandra Fluke were to receive coverage for contraception, she should have to put video footage of herself having sex online so he could watch.

But this is just a drop in the bucket when it comes to the levels of fringe craziness Limbaugh has entertained. In addition to being just as hateful as Ann Coulter, Limbaugh is at war with reality.

In 2007, Limbaugh accused all Iraq war veterans who were critical of the Iraq war of being "phony soldiers."

In 2008, Limbaugh, who had previously insisted that anyone who does not support the president during a time of war is a traitor, declared of President Obama "I hope he fails" on January 16th, four days before the new commander in chief had even been sworn in.

The movie "The Dark Knight Rises", Limbaugh insisted, must have been part of an anti-Romney conspiracy because the (classic) villain was named Bane, similar to Romney's investment company.

Before the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, which was threatened by Hurricane Isaac, Limbaugh accused the National Weather Service of altering its forecast in order to disrupt the convention.

And shortly thereafter, Limbaugh blamed "feminazis" for a study that showed a gradual decrease in the average penis size.

Yet nowhere does Limbaugh demonstrate his sheer insanity than when it comes to President Obama. While other crazies like Pat Boone and Dave Mustaine are in denial of the fact that Obama is an American citizen, Limbaugh has even attempted to deny that Obama is black.

"You go back to 2008," said Limbaugh, "and the Democrats were wringing their hands because he wasn't authentically black. That's the reason the Reverend Sharpton had a problem with him, and they wrote that column in the LA Times about 'the magic negro.' He wasn't 'down with the strugg-hle.' He doesn't have 'slave blood.'"

And yet what's most astonishing is that this is not even the height of Limbaugh's insanity.

That would be this, which Limbaugh offered to his viewers in the wake of the death of Osama Bin Laden:

"What if Ayman al-Zawahiri and other Al Qaeda leaders gave up Osama bin Laden for the express purpose of making Obama look good?"

Just how hateful would someone have to be that the only way they could continue living with themselves is to make up a fantasy in which the death of Bin Laden was not a victory for America?

This is too dumb for words.

And yet still only bad enough for #2.
