Bad omen? Justice Department watchdog to resign

On the heels of a scathing report issued by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights that detailed corruption, racism, lying under oath, and altering official FBI documents on the part of the Justice Department, the internal 'watchdog' of the DOJ resigned, effective at the end of January.

Glenn Fine has served as the Justice Department's inspector-general for 10 years.  His job is to help insure that the Department adheres to the law and follows its own internal rules and regulations, along with commonly-accepted ethical standards.

According to a report at The Hill

"Fine served as Justice’s inspector general for 10 years during a time of intense public scrutiny of the department. He will leave just as Republicans in Congress are gearing up to launch an aggressive series of investigations of the Obama administration that will no doubt keep the Justice Department and its internal watchdog busy."

Although Fine was never reticent about going after certain Bush Administration officials within the Department who obviously exhibited signs of corruption, the inspector-general has been noticeably silent on numerous complaints about gross violations of the law in the Obama Justice Department.

The Civil Rights Commission's 144-page report goes into intricate detail in delineating a corrupt DOJ that makes decisions on legal cases based upon race alone.  The report documents that DOJ officials lied under oath during the Commission's investigations, and submitted documents from the FBI that the DOJ had altered prior to their submission.

A pattern of behavior within the DOJ is emerging indicating a mindset among Obama appointees that assumes election laws are to be enforced only on the basis of race, i.e., cases are dropped when they involve blacks who are charged with voting law violations. The prevailing view of political appointees appears to be that these laws are aimed only at whites who are thusly charged, but not blacks--a violation of the Constitutional mandate of 'equal protection under the law.'

Yet, during the entire sordid, embarrassing fiasco surrounding the New Black Panther voter intimidation case, which the DOJ summarily dropped as soon as the Obama team was in place, the inspector-general said nothing.  In fact, in one accord top Democrats have begun heaping the praises on Fine, claiming that he worked tirelessly to insure honesty and integrity within the Department.

Note the soaring praise Fine received from Attorney General Eric Holder and Senator Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont, via The Hill:

“'In the Justice Department’s most critical operations and practices, especially our efforts to combat corruption, fraud, waste and abuse, the work done by the Office of the Inspector General is essential,' Holder said. 'Thanks to Glenn’s outstanding leadership, this office has never been stronger.'

"Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) singled out Fine’s work during the investigation of former President George W. Bush’s firing of nine U.S. attorneys.

“'I particularly applaud his work to shed light on improper political influence in hiring and prosecutions, which helped bring the Department through a particularly dark chapter in its history,' Leahy said."

The problem, however, is that Fine has not exhibited the same zeal in shedding light on improper political influence, and even violations of the law, within the OBAMA Justice Department.

And, with Republicans set to take control of the House in January, Darrell Issa (R-California), who will become Chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, promises a thorough investigation into the numerous complaints of corruption throughout the Obama Administration, including the Department of Justice.

It is no wonder Fine is heading for the hills.

As an original foot-soldier in 'the Reagan Revolution' that led to the election of Ronald Reagan, Anthony G. Martin is no stranger to politics, particularly in the state of his birth, South Carolina.

In other words, Fine was "fine" with the politicization of the Justice Department under Holder and Obama.

The lights will be turned on again in Washington ! In anticipation of this the cockroaches are starting to scatter ! As this plays out Holder will more than likely head back into the shadows as well !

Fine can't take the heat over the Black Panther voter intimidation case, so he runs. He knows he can't hide from Issa.
