Baconnaise, Bacon Vodka, and Bacon-flavored...ice cream? Bacon tops the list of food trends for 2010 according to advertising agency J. Walter Thompson, whose clients include some of the leading food retailers and manufacturers in the U.S. and abroad.
The list, in descending order:
1. Bacon. Bacon in vodka, bacon in salt, bacon-and-egg ice cream - you name it, bacon is a food trend for 2010.
2. Organic fast food. More fast food stores will be adding organic foods to their choices. Panera already uses Bell and Evans chicken in their stores - will McDonalds go Whole Foods on us?
3. Wine cocktails. That's not new - that's retro. Retro 1990s, though. Wine spritzers = wine coolers. What's next? Zima and pegged pants while we all Walk the Dinosaur?
4. Health claim questions. Do we really need omega-3 oil in our Cheetos? Red Bull with added vitamin D? What's next?
5. Sardines = hip. Seriously? So the dad on Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is teh coolz?
Food trends for 2010 look, well, bleak. We've jumped the shark when SweetRiot makes a bacon-flavored chocolate bar.
