A bacon app will have your morning starting off with the enticing scent of sizzling bacon – a classic morning pick me up rivaled only by the unmistakable scent of our favorite cup of Joe. “There’s an app for that,” as the saying goes, but who would have guessed that the actual scent of frying bacon could be generated out of an iPhone?
According to a report from The Associated Press, as carried by ABC News Thursday, you can literally “wake up and smell the bacon” with a new plug-in app developed by, who else, bacon and hot dog king Oscar Mayer.
The AP report says that to “emit a small puff reminiscent of bacon, the user needs an external device that plugs into the headphone jack. The app itself produces the sound of bacon sizzling in a pan.”
Oscar Mayer, part of Kraft Foods Group Inc., is not releasing the app for sale to the general public, Instead, you have to earn it. Only 4,700 devices are available, and they are free, to good “Bacon-loving” homes.
The scent-producing dongle plugs into the iPhone's headphone jack and, when paired with the accompanying iOS app, releases the smell of bacon at the time you set the alarm to go off.
“With nearly two million mentions of #bacon on Instagram, it seems people never get tired of bacon. That’s why our team decided to develop a device to give folks what they long for most,” said Tom Bick, senior director of integrated marketing and advertising at Oscar Mayer. “As the category leader, Oscar Mayer is thrilled to bring the first-ever, bacon-scented mobile device to market, giving bacon aficionados a new reason to welcome their morning alarm clocks.”
Think you have the bacon passion to win one of these new apps? Head over to Oscar Mayer's contest website at wakeupandsmellthebacon.com. The contest runs through April 4 and winners will receive their bacon-scented devices within six to eight weeks.
