Dunkin' Donuts has announced they are not launching their gluten-free blueberry muffin and cinnamon sugar donut nationwide, as they previously reported in July 2013. I am probably not the only one who went looking for these new gluten-free treats only to find puzzled employees and absent product. After the six month trial, Dunkin’ Donuts told Gluten Free Living the disappointing news:

In 2013, we tested a gluten-free Cinnamon Sugar Donut and Blueberry Muffin in select markets. We are currently assessing the results of this test, as well as feedback from our guests and franchisees, and we do not have plans to launch these products nationally at this time. We are continuing to develop additional gluten-free products for future tests, and we remain committed to exploring ways to offer our guests gluten-free choices.

I am disappointed that the company has strayed from their original plan because they were actually dedicated to providing a safe bakery treat for those who eat gluten free. The baked goods were certified gluten free by the Gluten Free Certification Organization (GFCO), prepared in a dedicated facility, and individually packaged to avoid cross contamination.

I can only hope Dunkin' is hard at working developing gluten-free goodies that are not as high in fat and calories as these offering. I never go to Dunkin' Donuts, but both my husband and daughter do, so it would have been nice to be able to purchase more than just a beverage or fruit from the company.
