Here are a few back-to-school lunch ideas to try.
It's all too easy to fall into to PB&J rut! This does not need to be the case when there are so many fabulous and creative ways to jazz up lunch!
With sandwiches, the combination of ingredients is only limited to your own imagination. Go wild!
Here are a few good mix and match sandwich ideas.
- whole wheat bagel, almond butter, banana slices
- whole wheat pita bread, cream cheese, turkey, cranberries
- sourdough bread, ham or turkey, cheese, turkey bacon, apple slices
- whole wheat flour tortilla, tuna salad, lettuce, tomato
- toasted english muffin, cashew butter, shredded carrots, raisins
Don't just limit yourself to sandwiches!
- leftover homemade chili, corn muffins
- tomato soup, cheesy bread sticks
- leftover spaghetti and french bread
- macaroni and cheese with diced ham
- beans and rice, whole wheat flour tortillas
Who says you can't eat breakfast for lunch?
- scrambled eggs with crumbled turkey bacon, biscuit
- oatmeal with fruit and nuts
- whole wheat french toast sticks, maple syrup, fruit
- pigs in a blanket
- whole grain fruit muffin, applesauce
Note: Use a thermos to keep foods hot until lunchtime.
There are so many great ideas out there. Don't be afraid to try something new. Your kids will love it.

Wish I would have had some of these ideas when my children were in school. Number 1 sounds like a yummy treat to me. I have never tried almond butter... time for a first?
Thanks for your comment BarbaraJean. With all of the peanut allergies these days it's nice to have such tasty alternatives out there. Almond butter is definitely a great nut butter choice.
