Back to school: How the government shutdown is affecting preschool children

Today’s news reports announced that government politicians are going back to the table to try and get nutrition funding restored for young children.
According to an e-blast sent from the National Association of Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the government shutdown has caused the closure of 5 Head Start programs due to a missed payment of the government on October 1st.
New Medicaid applications and children’s health insurance applications through the government will need to be postponed. Government website, such as this one may not be up-to-date to inform preschool families of current happenings.
The government shutdown locally has halted background check processing in Raleigh, NC. On the contrary, consultants who check for background information are also on furlough.
As for the hiring of new preschool staff, E-verify was not working.
