In first parts of this article we look at the feature back to school films, Better off Dead, Teen Wolf, and Teen Witch. Of course there are so many other great back to school movies, it is difficult to choose. Some personal favorites that are beloved by many are the John Hughes classics such as The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles, but aside from the obvious, there are many others to choose from.
To conclude the back school films article, let us look at a film from the college perspective, The Allnighter. Although it is a personal fave, it is not well received, but it is a quintessential 80's film. The film tag line of 'who says you can't do it all in one night' and other aspects were mirrored in film Can't Hardly Wait. So, that proves the premise is not too far off the mark in Hollywood. However, The Allnighter has a greater likability factor and does not just focus on partying.
The film stars Susanna Hoffs (The Bangles), Dedee Pfieffer (Michelle Pfieffer's sister) and Joan Cusack. It is directed by Hoffs' mother, Tamar Hoffs in attempt to launch her daughter's career into acting. Hoffs' character, Molly is the class valedictorian, who regrets that she is about to graduate from Pacifica College without having a true romance. Incidentally, she has a crush on her good friend, C.J. (John Terlesky), who is a hot surfer and a chick magnet to girls in the film as well as viewers. As their graduation approaches they have a fiesta on the beach, but the evening turns into a wild night of mishaps and self discovery. Perhaps they will all find the anwsers they are looking for before their graduation.
It is only fair to warn you this movie is not liked by all, but if you like low budget 80's films you will love it. It will bring back memories of college or make you want to attend a college by beach. It is complemented by a great soundtrack and overall great cast. It is definitely worth watching.
