In parts one and two of this article we look at the feature back to school films, Better off Dead and Teen Wolf. Of course there are so many other great back to school movies, it is difficult to choose. Some personal favorites that are beloved by many are the John Hughes classics such as The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles, but aside from the obvious, there are many others to choose from.
Another movie about transformation with a similar title is Teen Witch. This film has the classic theme of the unpopular girl, Louise (Robyn Lively), who falls for the football team captain, Brad (Dan Gauthier). Unfortunately, he is dating the popular head cheerleader. Louise becomes his tutor and he begins to respect and care for her. At their high school, popularity is really important, so his relationship with the cheerleader seems to be more about status. Although Brad and Louise have become close, her geek status will prevent them from being together.
Then, Louise finds out that she is a witch and will receive powers on her sixteenth birthday. Her birthday is a lonely one, as the popular girls play a mean trick and make sure that no one attends her party. However, when she receives her powers the first thing she does is get back at the popular girls. Then of course she wants to become one of them, but along the way loses sight of who she is. In the end she will realize that Brad is what she really wants and her powers come in second, but will she give then up and go back to normal?
This is definitely a little cheesy, but a fun 80's film. It is also complemented by a musical style soundtrack. There was actually talks about a remake starring Ashley Tisdale, but it was years ago and nothing has developed. So, hopefully they have rescinded that idea.
