Earlier in August NBC News reported, “Denim is in real danger of going out of fashion,” because the sale of jeans dropped six percent in the United States last year. While not staggering statistics, experts claim it is a rare circumstance for denim to drop in sales, this as spring stylists predicted a surge in the denim trend. However, the fashion trend analysis could have been ploy by denim retailers to push jeans in lieu of the decline in sales.
Looking at the current back-to-school fashion trends, Dana Telsey, CEO and chief research officer at Telsey Advisory Group claims, “There isn't an 'it' item for back-to-school like we had two years ago. Instead Dana suggests, “dusters, dresses and crop tops” are hot and “anything athletic, such as activewear, which has become the new everyday wear, and that's happening no matter what age people are."
But, if being a true fashionista is what you aspire to for back-to-school fashion, “ditch the yoga pants,” says George Kotsiopoulos, style guru of “Fashion Police” and author of "Glamorous by George: The Key to Creating Movie Star Style," during an exclusive interview with the Long Island Women’s Style Examiner back in April. Yoga pants are for working out, but, George points out, If you insist on wearing a yoga pant, then cover it up with a stylish overcoat, something to glam it up, or wear a stretch jean or a jean-type legging.”
