Back to school events are springing up

Summer activities are still in full swing, but there are back-to-school events that are beginning to appear and calendars will begin to reflect a schedule to include these events. School will start in most areas of the country in a few weeks. Students in Sarasota will begin school soon.

Activities such as school physicals, open houses for parents who are looking for childcare for the younger children and after-school care for older children, and shopping for school supplies are all on the beginning list for back-to-school events to be scheduled.

Shopping for school clothes and supplies is increasingly expensive, and parents always appreciate yearly Sales Tax Holiday to save on needed school clothes and supplies. August 1 will begin the Sales Tax Holiday Weekend for Sarasota parents. The sales tax holiday weekend will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 1, and end on Sunday, August 3, at 11:50 p.m. No Florida sales tax or local tax will be collected on purchases selling for $100 or less per item. Clothing, shoes, and certain accessories will be included. School supplies that sell for $15 or less per item are also included in the sales tax holiday shopping. Computers and other digital items selling for $750 or less are of special interest for parents who will be shopping in Sarasota. Parents may log on at www.dor.myflorida.com/dor/gta/html to view a complete list of items that will be included in the sales tax holiday.

It's also time to schedule your child's school physical to avoid the rush at the doctor's office. The Sarasota Children's Clinic will offer back to school physicals beginning on August 1. Back to school wellness exams are offered for children in grades K-12. The Sarasota Children's Clinic is unique with its mother-daughter medical team. Pediatric care is a trusted specialty of this mother-daughter doctor team. The Sarasota Children's Clinic is located at 3902 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota. Parents may call 941-923-3667 for appointment hours or log on at www.sarasotakidsdocs.com for your child's back to school wellness check.

Back to school preparations can be less hectic if you put beginning events on your calendar early to get a good start on the school year. Children will begin to put some excitement in their attitude toward returning to school if the beginning preparations are well-organized. You can even schedule a reward event for after having the wellness exams.
