With many Tulsa area schools going back to school in a couple weeks everyone is looking for back to school deals. In addition to looking out for sales and deals on many school supplies, backpacks, and clothes. There's of course the Oklahoma tax free holiday August 1-3, 2014. Retailers are required to participate in the OK tax free holiday and may not collect state and local sales tax on qualifying clothes and footwear sold for less than $100. Some qualifying items are shirts, pants, coats, shoes, underwear, socks, diapers, hats, belts, etc. Some accessories that do not qualify include but, not limited to umbrellas, jewelry, handbags, belt buckles, hair clips, etc. For more information please see the Oklahoma Tax Commission website. You can increase your savings by shopping sales, thrift stores, and consignment stores during this tax free holiday.
Although the tax free weekend does just apply to clothes there are places that offer some back to school assistance: For school supplies there's Project School Supplies sponsored by Restore Hope Ministries where they're giving away grade-specific school supplies to Tulsa Public School students Pre-K through twelfth grade. Parents will need to bring the Social Security card(s) for children and parent's photo ID to pick up supplies from 2960 S. Charles Page Bouleveard Aug. 4-7 ; 11-14, 9:30a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 12:30 -3p.m. Additionally some Tulsa area schools participate in the Partnership for the Availability of School Supplies (PASS) program. Also Clary Sage College is offering free haircuts for Tulsa area school-aged children between 9a.m. -9p.m. Aug. 4, 5, and 6. located at 3131 S. Sheridan -no appointment necessary.
