September 24, 2013

As usual, the Crocker has a multitude of things available for children to enjoy. One of thier main exhibits which just opened is just right for those wanting to educate about the slavery issue.

"Tales of Slavery and Power", opened September 22, 2013 and will be opened until January 5, 2014. It is on view on the third floor, and is the work of Art21 Artist Kara Walker.

Her works are on the subject matter of her own background as an African American Woman raised in the south. They depict the scenes of this time period and lifestyle that most modern students may never have the oppurtunity of ever understanding in the internet age.

She has 60 works in teh medium of silhouettes, all are "thought provoking". Race is still an issue according to artists and historians, it has been 150 years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

www.crockerartmuseum.org is the website for the Crocker art musuem located on O street but downtown near the Tower Bridge. Times and admission can be found as well as special events for this exhibit.
