Back to salsa school with Marcus Negron and Rie Rivera

The nationwide back-to-school phenomenon is in full swing and now that the little ones are settled in their 2012-2013 school schedules the grown-ups have time for a little continuing education of their own. Saturday, September 1 marks the first day of class for a new salsa course in DFW. Marcus Negron and Rie Rivera are offering an eight-week cycle of level 1 salsa on-2 lessons.

Marcus and Rie boast more than a decade of combined dance experience and the duo is primed to share their expertise with students wanting to refine their salsa foundation. Although it’s a level 1 course it’s not restricted to brand new beginners (it is, however, a perfect place to start). This particular program was designed with the never-danced student, the on-1 dancer wanting to transition to on-2 timing and the out-of-practice dancer in mind. Regardless of the individual’s background, each and every student is guaranteed to exit the course with a newfound perspective and the confidence to rock the local salsa scene.

The eight-week cycle will cover the fundamentals of timing, weight distribution, and basic lead and follow techniques necessary to navigate the dance floor with a partner. Classes run an hour and 15 minutes and include a Q & A session to address any pressing questions or concerns. Participants will also have the opportunity to dance with their instructors to experience the proper feel of the dance.

Lessons are held Saturday afternoons from 2:00 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. at My Salsa Dance & Fitness Studio (522 W. Harwood Road, Hurst, TX 76054). The cost is $10 per class for walk-ins or $65 for the full eight weeks. Please contact Marcus or Rie at 512-650-0496 or via email at arlingtonsalsa@gmail.com with any questions or for further details.
