Black Friday is not just the busiest shopping day of the year for devoted moms waking up at dawn to get the latest toy sensation for their kids. The Black Friday I’m referring to is held by the organizers of Record Store Day and is on the same day (Friday after Thanksgiving) which falls on November 29 this year, and will offer exclusive releases for music lovers.
Yes, Record Stores still exist. They may be few and far between, but they are not extinct just yet. Today, record stores have to compete with iTunes, large online retail stores like Amazon.com and the popular streaming service Spotify. But there are Record Stores hanging in there with the help of a rise in vinyl sales.
RSD’s Black Friday is different from their usual Record Store Day which is held the third Saturday in April. Record Store Day is one day dedicated to special releases, whereas Black Friday specials are available for the holiday season and can extend as far as supplies last. In its original 7” Vinyl EP format from ABKCO Records; recorded on the Rolling Stones’ 5th British Tour in London and Manchester in 1965. Nirvana’s In Utero 2013 Mix, remixed and remastered at Abbey Road Studios this year and will be issued on clear vinyl, exclusively for this event. Lady Gaga's Applause Remix Picture Disc, and the Flaming Lips Peace Sword, EP, based on the themes from novel Ender’s Game.
These type of yearly occasions are great because they remind those that have dearly departed to purchasing or just listening to their music solely via the internet, that you should get off your couch and experience getting music the way it was meant to be, browsing for hours and taking home the physical entity that includes artwork and liner notes.
