This is Part 3 of a 4 part series on The Santa Fe Chocolate Trail. Read Part 2 and Part 4 .
CG Higgins Confections tucked away at the intersection of St. Francis Drive and tiny Ninita Street is easy to miss. Ever since the shop was featured on Road Tasted with the Neelys on the Food Network, people go out of their way to get there.
The shop offers a wide variety of sweets. The hand-rolled, hand-dipped truffles are made from French Chocolate and have uniquely flavored fillings. Two top-sellers are raspberry cardamom and Vietnamese cinnamon. He makes his truffles differently than traditional ones. Instead of ganache as the base, he uses fudge and tweaks it with flavors and other natural ingredients. Higgins says this gives them a longer shelf life without the use of preservatives.
A selection of chocolate in Santa Fe wouldn’t be complete without chile. Higgins’ chile chocolates combine red and green chile in the same confection, this creates a greater depth of flavor. He also makes brittles and seven flavors of fudge and seven varieties of caramel corn.
While you’re traveling The Santa Fe Chocolate Trail, stop into CG Higgins Confections and sample the goods.
Note: According to owner Chuck Higgins, C.G. Higgins Confections has been designated as the Official Candy Maker for Santa Fe’s 400th Anniversary Celebration! The official candy for the commemoration is their Chile Pecan Brittle, made with both Red and Green Chiles. Ole!

My mouth is watering just thinking about these delicious, yummy goodies. Thanks for the temptations.
Killing me with the chocolate! I love it!!
I'll have to sample these on my next trip to Santa Fe. Chocolate and chili is an historic combination.
Vietnamese cinnamon sounds very tasty. Not many people know that Vietnam is actually known for treats and pastries due to the influence of the French.

Even people on a weight loss plan can eat chocolate, if they plan well. You have provided a wonderful series for our women's group for a trip to S.F. Thank you.
I was in Santa Fe for about a week and I think I went into the shop 3 times. I am much happier and fatter having found CG Higgins.
