Matt Brown has been forced to withdraw from his bout at UFC on FOX 9 due to a back injury.

The Xenia, Ohio native was scheduled to take on former number one contender Carlos Condit in a welterweight bout on next Saturday night’s main card. The fight was scheduled to air live on FOX.

Twitter personality Front Row Brian was the first to report the story on Friday evening. Matt Brown confirmed that he was out of the fight on Saturday afternoon.

Brown is currently riding a six-fight win streak and could have earned a title shot with an impressive win over Condit. The 32-year-old is currently ranked No. 9 in the UFC rankings.

The former “Ultimate Fighter” is coming off an impressive first round KO win over Mike Pyle in August at UFC Fight Night 26. Brown also has wins over Mike Swick and Jordan Mein during his six-fight win streak.

After back-to-back losses to Georges St-Pierre and Johny Hendricks, Condit rebounded with a fourth round TKO victory over Martin Kampmann in August at UFC Fight Night 27. “The Natural Born Killer” is currently ranked No. 2 in the UFC rankings.

It is unknown at this time if Condit will remain on the card or if the fight with Brown will be rescheduled.

UFC on FOX 9 will be headlined by a flyweight title fight between Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez. Also on the card, Urijah Faber will take on Michael McDonald and Chad Mendes will take on Nik Lentz.
