Back by popular demand: Mike's on the Avenue

Many New Orleanians were bummed when Mike’s on the Avenue closed its doors in 1999 after nine successful years in business.  It was a real loss to the area, and several restaurants opened in the space, but never made it.

            Well New Orleans, one of the hottest restaurants of the 1990’s is back!

            Mike’s on the Avenue is now open in its original location,

with chef Mike Fennelly and restaurateur Vicky Bayley once again at the helm.

            Fans of the old Mike’s find many similarities to the former restaurant in food and ambience.  Mike’s artistry in the kitchen and on the canvas also abound.  From the chef’s imaginative delicacies of the 1990’s (with 2010 adaptations) and his skills as a visual artist on the canvas, New Orleanians feel right at home.

            Fennelly’s culinary sensibilities are decidedly contemporary and draw from his worldwide travels.  Expect American foods with an Asian or Creole or Cajun twist.  Some local favorites include Louisiana crawfish spring rolls with chile-lime sauce and Gulf shrimp and spinach dumplings with tahini sauce.  Crab cakes are lavished with a velvety remoulade sauce, salsa, guacamole and house made matchstick potatoes.  A crispy duck is garnished with sugar snap peas, brown rice, tasso and andouille, then rolled in a delicate flour tortilla and dipped into a Vermont maple sauce.  The chef’s imagination soars, and the palate is forever grateful.

              In this chic-yet-relaxed atmosphere there are upscale comforts, affordable prices, food-friendly wines and specialty cocktails.   Fennelly himself mans the sushi counter on most nights. And what a wonderful addition to the city’s restaurant scene this is.
